Dr. Cody Smouse

Owner & Optometrist

Dr. Smouse is the owner and full time optometrist of Charleston Eye. He has been practicing Optometry in the Charleston area since 2012 when he joined Charleston Eye on a part-time basis. Dr. Smouse attended the University of Pittsburgh earning a bachelor’s degree in biology. He went on to attend Optometry school at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia earning his Doctorate of Optometry. He is a member of the American Optometric Association, the South Carolina Optometric Association, and the Coastal Carolina Optometric Association. In his free time he enjoys spending time with his wife, son and daughter, golfing and fishing.

Erica Smalls

Office Manager

Erica is our friendly and welcoming office manager. You’ll speak with her when you’re making your appointment and she’ll be the first to greet you when you walk through the door. She will also work with your insurance company to ensure you get the most out of your benefits. She has earned her RMA, CMA, and CMAA at Southeastern Institute here in Charleston. Erica’s love for customer service and her enthusiasm creates an exceptional experience from start to end. She is a Charleston native and in her spare time she loves going on outings with her children, reading, and traveling.

Optician

Brian is a board-certified optician with 30 years of extensive experience in the optical field. Originally from the Northeast, he moved to South Carolina in 2019. When not fitting eyeglasses, he enjoys spending time with family, listening to music, and playing the drums.

Emily Rettberg

Technician & Lens Specialists

Emily is Dr. Smouse’s technician and contact lens specialist. Having worked in the optical field for 3+ years, she handles all pre-testing for exams, special testing, and contact lens ordering as well as assisting the doctor in the room as needed. Emily is a Summerville native and in her spare time she enjoys contra dancing, reading, and going to parks with her siblings.
